In Kita Tateshina, where gKasuga Villah is located, there used to be many post-towns along former Nakasendo road, including gMochizuki stage-town,h and gMotai stage-town.h There are things that still remind us of the old times in the present day. In addition, Mochizuki is a village with a lot of atmosphere, and houses with thatched roofs, paddy fields with paths, stone figures of travelersf guardian deities are scattered in the area.
The village could be called the home of Japan. Students cultivate the Japanese spirit through visiting the countryside filled with a Japanese atmosphere.
Furthermore, with the cooperation of the people in the local area, students experience folk culture, such as singing the folk song, gMochizuki Kouta (a Japanese ballad accompanied by the shamisen)h which was passed down from the old days, gNawanae,h making ropes from straws, and making ceramics, in building relationships with the people in the area. Other programs include, catching trout by hand, cooking rice for lunch in a messtin in groups. |
