Participating in the Mochizuki Off-Campus
Program
Ryoko Shimotori, a second
year student at Seitoku High School Attached
to Seitoku University
My second Mochizuki
off-campus program in high school ended
safely without any accidents. Because I
went to Mochizuki in junior high school
also, this was my fifth time. I am used to
it, because I have gone through the program
many times, but the off-campus program is
always fulfilling and enjoyable, for
different friends join the group and many
things happen each time.
This
year, I became the group leader for the
first time in high school, and I got a
little tense not to cause othersf trouble
and to work hard. There were some times I
made a mistake, but I was able to finish my
role as a group leader with out any
problem. Although Ifm not good at bringing
groups together, I was able to gain good
experiences because of the other studentsf
cooperation.
I
also experienced digging potatoes, cooking
rice in a messtin, and bus hiking, which
comprise essential parts of the off-campus
program. It is a little tiring to go to the
potato field, but digging potatoes was
enjoyable work to the extent that I forgot
myself. In addition, I was able to
experience cooking rice in a messtin, which
we couldnft do last year. We had difficulty
in starting the fire, although we planned
the positions for firewood and fanned with
our hats, but anyhow, the rice was
deliciously cooked. There was some burned
rice in the curry rice, but the burned part
was especially delicious. As for bus
hiking, we went to a botanical garden with
many plants and rare plants, and a farm with
delicious ice cream. I experienced many
things that can only be experienced through
an off-campus program in the nature.
In
the beginning, I thought the off-campus
program for 4 days and 3 nights was long,
but while I was caught up with many events,
time passed by without knowing. My
friendships deepened, because I had a chance
to talk with people I usually donft talk
with, and I came across new aspects of my
friends.
There
are many discoveries, new memories and lots
of things to learn from this Mochizuki
off-campus program each year. I hope
to make use of what I learned for my life in
the future.
