Building stronger relationships in off-campus program

As for the university, junior college division and kindergarten teacher training college, we incorporate off-campus programs under a class called gOff-Campus Study Program.h  gOff-Campus Studyh is placed in the gSeitoku Educationh program as a required subject, like gThe Performing Arts Seriesh and where students earn credit.
In off-campus study program, students not only acquire extensive knowledge and helpful abilities, one of its aims is to build new relationships through gathering with other students and teachers.  In a student life without many opportunities to act as a group, students learn to deepen relationships with others, which is hard to do in a classroom, and to cultivate human relationships to live togetherStudents also learn the rules for acting in a group and self-control through the off-campus program.
In addition, experiential study is substantial.  For gOff-Campus Study Program III,h we hold classical performing arts appreciation and table manners classes.  In classical performing arts appreciation, students see Noh theater, bunraku and kabuki with an aim to deepen their understanding of Japanese traditional culture.  The table manners class takes place at the Imperial hotel as a gathering to try French food and to learn table manners.  It is a program where students acquire table manners appropriate for an adult, and learn from one of the chefs French dietary culture and recipes.

Participating in "SOFT"
Yuki Honma, a second year student majoring in Life Welfare in the Department of Life Culture at Seitoku University

In the beginning of May, after the new school year began and students got used to the new semester, we went on the Hakone study tour (SOFT).  This is a study tour to cultivate a sense of cooperativeness in group life, and for the first year and the second year students, teachers and the students to build closer relationships.  This study tour was more memorable for me than last yearfs.  For my first study tour, since it took place in a new environment with new schoolmates, I was worried all the time, not knowing what will happen and what I will learn.  I was caught up with maintaining gharmonyh with others and the group, and I felt as if the tour ended without giving me a chance to uncover my personality.
For that reason, I participated in this study tour, looking back to my first year, recalling how the older students thoroughly answered my questions about school, and thinking about gwhat I should doh and gwhat I can do for the new students.h
From this study tour, I realized again the importance of cooperativeness, the spirit of thoughtfulness toward others, and how we can build mutual trust by cooperating together toward the same goal.  I grew a little as a person, and I felt as if my relationships with my friends got deeper.  I hope to make the most of this experience in my life.
